Our Finances

The Sunday Paper pays contributors (writers, poets, photographers, artists) for their work.

We offer $600 for an article or poem (or $600 per author in a longer collaboration). We offer between $100 and $1000 for artwork and images. Payments are made in 2 equal instalments; the first on receipt of the final work and the second once published.

Our model allows contributors to request deeper feedback from a fellow contributor. There is an additional $200 payment available to the person offering this assistance.

The Sunday Paper provides an audio version of each article for accessibility (link in paper). Each reader is offered $100 in payment.

The Sunday Paper also aims to make spaces for connection between writers. Contributors may donate their time to meet at our internal round table and collaborative design conversations as each edition takes shape.

Contributors offer their experience and knowledge, far beyond what any payment could compensate. Some contributors have asked us to put their fees back into the project, or to donate to another organisation on their behalf.

The Sunday Paper was co-created — and is edited, administered and distributed — by Yul Scarf, Alex Moulis and Matt Chun. We take no payment for this work.

Our audio is edited by Mell Chun, who also gives her labour voluntarily.

The Sunday Paper would not be possible without the work of designer and typesetter Dennis Grauel. Dennis was paid $1000 for his work on Issue 1, yet this covers only a fraction of the care and labour he brings to the project.

It costs us approx. $5 to produce each copy of The Sunday Paper and approx. $3 to get it to you (within this continent). We charge $10 for a copy of The Sunday Paper, with free shipping. We make free copies available for Aboriginal, Torres Strait Islander and Palestinian readers.

We began this project with $10,000 of our own funds, alongside a $10,000 loan which we have now repaid. We do not accept any sponsorships or grants and we do not receive money for advertising. All profit will go towards perpetuating the project.

We value your support.
