Resistance

30 November 2023

The zionist project is colonial, imperialist and genocidal by nature, built on stolen land and sustained through the systematic expulsion, exploitation, incarceration, deprivation and extermination of Palestinian people.

Just as colonisation and occupation are violent, the overthrowing of oppression also entails violence. We know this to be true through observing revolutionary struggles against colonisation and empire throughout history: from the Frontier Wars of the ‘australian’ settler colony, to the FLN of Algeria, to Vietnam, and the Haitian revolution.

The Sunday Paper unconditionally and unequivocally supports the Palestinian right to resist the 75-year-long settler colonisation and ethnic cleansing of Palestine, including the brutal 16-year blockade of Gaza.

In the wake of 7 October, the resistance has shattered the zionist army’s facade of invincibility, while maintaining the collective dignity and morale of the Palestinian people.

The resistance has proven that Palestinian aspirations of liberating people and land can be achieved.

In the words of liberated prisoner Hanan Al-Barghouti:

‘If it wasn’t for the resistance, we wouldn’t have seen freedom. We owe our freedom to the resistance. We owe our glory to the resistance. The resistance keeps our heads held high.’

As Palestinian prisoners are freed from the horror of zionist prisons, they have declared that their freedom was paid for with the blood of Gaza’s martyrs.

Gaza is the heart of the Palestinian struggle, and prisoners are its conscience. We, the co-editors of The Sunday Paper, will continue to take their lead as they sustain and guide us on the path to liberation.
